Out of all the saxophone players that I admire and whose music I enjoy, Wayne Shorter is the one I most wish I could be. It’s not just his playing, though I like listening to him (though not as much as I like listening to, say, Paul Desmond). It’s the tremendous talent he has for composing. Speak No Evil as a whole is a remarkable achievement, and this haunting waltzy tune is probably its highlight.
