Olivia just showed this to me and I am dying. “THAT’S MY MAMA!”

"Some people die twice: once when they retire, and again when they actually pass away. Fear of the first one is a big incentive for me to keep working. Players, writers, people who work at the ballpark and front office, when I quit I know I’ll never see them again. I’ve never been the type to come to the ballpark and hang out; I’ve gone to one game in the last 60 years that I wasn’t working. I keep working because I don’t want to lose my friends."

"[Selig has] turned his back on the Dodgers, treated us differently, and forced us to the point we find ourselves in today. I simply cannot allow the commissioner to knowingly and intentionally be in a position to expose the Dodgers to financial risk any longer."

"‘I am jumping all over the room of the hotel. I am in heaven,’ said Jaime, the Hall of Fame Spanish announcer, who began broadcasting for the Dodgers in 1959. ‘Stefan called me. He was following the Draft all day and he called as soon as he heard. He said I was the first one he called. He was so excited. I talked to [Stefan’s father] Jorge. [My wife] Bianca was almost crying. It’s fantastic.’"

Baseball

gregproops:

This horrid mismanagement of the Dodgers points back to something I have harped on for years, the rich white men who own sports teams and in particular baseball, are terrible for the game. They were against, integration, radio, lights, free agency, free TV and they actively colluded to encourage steroid use and looked the other way while the players have been vilified. They are a greedy bunch of corporate devils and always were. Dodger tickets are simply unaffordable, this in light of the fact the Dodgers have a tremendous, devoted and loyal fan base. They raise prices, restrict fans access to the players and act as if they know what is right for the game. This has given us tie All-Star games and home team advantage decided by and exhibition game. Metal detectors at post season and no beer after the 7th inning. When will we have women players and umpires? Or a team in Puerto Rico? Or the option to send kids down to the rail and ask for an autograph? Do not scoff. I asked a Giants VP in 1987 when we would have Asian players and he said never. I told him that is what the owners said about Blacks in World War Two and he glowered at me. This is where they are coming from. Baseball is a trust and must be broken. Let the game be for the fans. The owners have my invitation to go fuck themselves. Eternally
